Meet Francoise Hardy – A French National Treasure and Style Icon

Born in 1944 in Paris, Francoise Hardy was a wistful breath of fresh air during the sex, drugs & rock ‘n’ roll of the 1960s. Singing in French, English, Italian and German, the shy beauty and talented French songwriter cast a spell on many of her contemporaries — and over France for nearly 60 years.

She was just 19 years old when the song "Tous les Garçons et les Filles" ("All the Boys and Girls") made her a star. Since then, she remained a presence to be reckoned with not just because of her music but also because of her style.

She recently told the New York Times, “When I came to London to perform at the Savoy in the mid-60s, I was well aware that the British press was more interested in the way I dressed than in my songs.” She would also model for France’s greatest designers, photographed for Vogue and Paris Match. She starred in multiple films such as Jean-Daniel Pollet’s Une balle au coeur, which she received rave reviews. She was the triple threat, the ideal woman.

In 2018, at the age of 74, Hardy released her 28th album Currently known as the white-haired woman with an androgynous silhouette, Francoise Hardy, who is now 77, is still breaking necks.
