Le Coq Sportif (French pronunciation: [lə kɔk spɔʁtif]) translates to: "the athletic rooster"
Le Coq Sportif goes all the way back to 1882, where it was founded by Émile Camuset in Entzheim, France. The Camuset family started manufacturing their sportswear in 1929. A decade later, Le Coq Sportif literally launched the first tracksuit ever they called the chándal (French for “the Sunday clothing”).
They became a household name when they signed a deal with the Tour de France in 1951 and solidified their global status with an official sponsorship of Team France in the 1960 Rome Summer Olympics.
